We, The Deejays and Vinylphiles Club, are ready start this quarter off right! Our DJs are ready to hit the ground running… BY RUNNING THE TRAP!!!

Trap Music, popularized by artists such as Baauer, UZ, Flosstradaumus, Dillion Francis, and Diplo emphasizes dirty beats with banging bass, at a similar to hip-hop tempo. So bring ya boo thang and ya boys, its about to go down!

EDM media giant Mixmag has just released a list of collaborations to go alongside each track on the highly anticipated new album by Daft Punk, Random Access Memories. One gander at the list and you think: is this all too good to be true? Giants like Nile Rodgers and Moroder are already confirmed to be on the album (just watch this magical video), but appearances by some would just seem like — I don’t know — too good of a partnership. Pharrell Williams (happy birthday)? DJ Falcon?!!

Rustie – Triadzz / Slasherr [Numbers]

UK amBASSador Rustie finally releases his much-anticipated Slasherr (leaked earlier this month), a shrill lushtrap anthem with a wonderfully trancey melodic breakdown — a signature of his — coupled with hard-hitting 808s and horns. Trap isn’t quite dead yet, but with much of “EDM” jumping on the trap train it’s going to be hard to find that UK sound amidst the sea of shitty electro remixes.

Para One feat. Cam’ron, Irfane, and Teki Latex – Every Little Thing Remix EP [Marble]

Para One solidifies his stake as new-school French R’n'B with this classy remix EP featuring Cam’ron, falsetto sweet-talker Irfane, and the Pellegrino Weirdo himself Teki Latex. All three versions exude thick, smooth class.. a sexy, sexy EP.

Thomas Gandey – The Cube [Southern Fried]

A beautiful melding of tech, deep, and progressive house, Thomas Gandey‘s The Cube is a four-track EP that has something for everyone, from atmospheric pads over tribal beats, banging drum sounds, trippy basslines, and acid stabs. A versatile and really refreshing EP for the DJ who likes to groove over fist-pump.

Miss Kittin – Bassline and Come Into My House Remix EP [wSphere]

Electroclash queen Miss Kittin enters 2013 with a stunning remix EP featuring Djedjotronic, Solomun, and Mock & Toof. Unfortunately, Djedjotronic‘s reinterpretation takes the original down too many housey notches for my liking, but Solomun‘s take is bass wobble heaven, while Mock & Toof‘s remix is a 7-minute-long window into a tropical psychedelic disco. Awesome vibes!

Rex the Dog feat. Jamie McDermott – Do You Feel What I Feel [Southern Fried]

Rex the Dog has been making excellent melody-driven electro-house since his debut on Desyn Masiello‘s Essential Mix back in 2004. Unfortunately, with such quality comes a natural lack of quantity, with his last release only in late 2011. However, if this single is any indication of new things to come, you can hope that 2013 will be a big year for the revival of electronic music!

Daft Punk – Random Access Memories [Columbia]

Speaking of music revivals.. They say hype alone can kill an artist, but if there has been any electronic act who has survived the years amidst all the hype — and the disappointment that comes along — it’s Daft Punk. I don’t care what you think about their polarizing Human After All, the poppy Discovery, or French House staple Homework; the hype surrounding Random Access Memories is a sign that people still care about good music, and that’s a hype I’m willing to support no matter how big a flop the album might turn out to be (hint: it will be awesome).

Here are some tracks released from earlier this month in case you missed them (if you were to use MMM as a source of new music, which hasn’t been updating regularly lately) (and I’ll throw in an emergency THIS JUST IN track preview, as well):

House grooves and funky vibes from none other than Treasure Fingers himself. An hour-long mix with something of everything to get you through the studying.

Rufus – Take Me [Sweat It Out!]

A smörgåsbord of sound! The original mix is a tropical beach-side track with steel drums and disco swing, while Cassian‘s interpretation brings that driving Aussie beat while retaining the nudisco flavor. Hypercolour‘s boy-faced BareSkin dials the altitude down and takes us on a journey into deepness, whereas Polographia takes “chillstep” to a totally different realm, with a slow 72bpm love jam.

Various Artists – Miami Noize 4 [Boysnoize]

Boysnoize Records strikes gold again, with this godly compilation spanning chilled house, in-your-face sawlines, breaks, and of course techno. As varied as it is good!

Various Artists – Think and Change [Nonplus]

Coveted for their vinyl-only exclusivity and untouchable freshness, Boddika has decided to release a compilation featuring fresh cuts from the likes of Four Tet, dBridge / Instra:mental, Martyn, and SCB. The result is beautiful, beautiful electronica and techno never before seen in the hands of digital DJs, especially the much-anticipated Boddika VIP of Mercy. We’re blessed right now.

Siriusmo – Itchy [Monkeytown]

No words. If you like Siriusmo, you’ll love this track. If you don’t like Siriusmo, you have terrible taste in music.

Surkin – Advanced Entertainment System [Marble]

As part of the growing renaissance of French EDM, Marble frontman Surkin has come out with his first EP after the release of his fabulous album USA with sister super-EP USA Club Mixes. A genre-bending reminiscence into the 90s, the aptly-titled Advanced Entertainment System melds ha crash, 808-hats and tribal drum kits into one cohesive but completely stretched extended play, with even a trap-esque collaboration with non other than Parisian equestrian Canblaster.

Subb-an – Rain [Visionquest]

Psychonautic cosmic deep house label Visionquest releases its 25th EP today with an offering from rising star Subb-an, featuring collaborations from Footprintz, Seth Troxler, and Tom Trago. The title track is a slow, driving broken beat reminiscent of walking down a city street late at night, with Adam Shelton flipping the tables and turning it into a full-force groover. The second track, Time, transports the listener underground into a sexy, opiate lounge. A real slow-burner!

George Fitzgerald – Thinking of You [Hotflush]

If “deep house banger” were a term to actually exist and become accepted in the community, this track would be a prime example. First heard in George FitzGerald‘s fantastic Essential Mix debut, this hypnotic garage stomper slaps cookie-cutter EDM right in its face, with subtle effects and deep basslines without that fast-food guilt and false gratification.

Dusky – Nobody Else [AUS Music]

Having debuted their artist album on none other than Anjunadeep, Dusky walk that strange fine line between progressive trance and new-school garage. Strip away the chunky claps and snares, and you get low-passed kicks with hypnotic, moving basslines worthy of a trance warmer. But right when the music starts up again, heavy wobbles (less OWSLA, more dirtybird) and driving house grooves reinforce their position as one of the UK’s champions of deep vibes.

Boys Noize – XTC – Ich R U Remixes [Boysnoize]

As if you didn’t think these tracks could get any better. Electronica godfathers the Chemical Brothers take Mr. Noize‘s bangeriest of bangers and turns it into WAY BIGGER OF A BANGER, while French Nu-Rave extraordinaires Justice reinterpret Ich R U (with a previously-released and super fantastic remix from Jacques Lu Cont — who is incidentally not French) into a dark and gloomy 80s nightdrive.

French Fries – Everything [ClekClekBoom]

French Fries takes that unclassifiable, signature sound of his and pumps out three stripped-down DJ tools to use as secret weapons in any tech bass set. D’Angelo, my favorite of the three, takes things down a notch — perhaps with some influence from his dirtybird counterparts — into a gated and panned purple drank affair.

Various – Turbo Miami Lifestyle [Turbo]

Where deep house revival and new jack techno meet. This compilation features tracks from new-schoolers Locked Groove, Clouds, and Gingy but also house mainstayers Jori Hulkkonen, Phil Kieran, and even the formidable tree-barker DJ Sneak. Tiga told his boys to come out of the basement and to get some much-needed moonlight on the beach with these late-night shakers, and while none of it is really as raw or gritty as Turbo‘s recent offerings, it never loses that new jack vibe while slipping into those campy Hawaiian shirts and laying back on the sand.

All Gone Pete Tong feat. Skream: Miami 2013 [Defected]

Holy shit. The mix compilation of all compilations.. Skream‘s official debut into the realm of deep house and garage! If you have been paying attention to the world of UK funky in the last year, it would be no surprise that the dubstep bad boy himself would opt for groove over wobble, but make no mistake: the masterful selection is a transferable skill, and fans of the sound will be keen to welcome the magnetic man into their community!

A refreshing reimagination of Zedd‘s huge hit, Clarity. So smooth and groovy, with a surprisingly dirty bassline to boot!

Kamp! – Melt – Zimmer Remix [DiscoTexas]

Super sexy groovetime with lush Aeroplane-like chord stabs that — don’t mind the pun — melts you right into a sunset on the beach. Zimmer is a man to watch.

Clouds – HE 1523-0901 [Twin Turbo]

More hard-hitting techno/house from Turbo champions Clouds. What less could you expect from the guys who push techno to its limits?

Yelle comes back after her hit album Safari Disco Club with a brand new single, incorporating lush pop synthlines (from Aeroplane) and 808 beats (from French hip-hop producer Grand Marnier) for an incredibly catchy song, if not trying just a bit hard to stay current with trends in EDM.

Justin Martin and Eats Everything – Feather Fight EP [Hypercolour]

Rave tech to the extreme!! Can’t find a preview of just one track, but the entire EP is ridiculous (in such a good way)!

Mat Zo – BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix – 2013-02-09

Worth listening to for the first 45 minutes alone. The middle isn’t quite my cup of tea, but then again a lot of things aren’t. But the beginning! I didn’t know Mat Zo had it in him!
